Bio
About

Niblick is Boyd de Groot. An UX design professional with over 25 years of industry experience and freelancing since 2012. I am a conceptual thinker with love for the details and the pragmatics of the design process.

Helping clients solve complex UX design problems to meet business objectives and user needs is what inspires me. My strength lies in the ‘fuzzy front end’ of the design process, and subsequently taking the UX strategy and concepts to delivery.

I like being part of multidisciplinary design and development teams and love working internationally.

Experience
Resumé (PDF)

Over the years I have gained a broad experience in translating business objectives, user research and technical requirements into UX concepts, design roadmaps and concrete UX design deliverables like wireframes, flows, guidelines and prototypes.

I have worked in many multidisciplinary design and development teams for internationally renowned clients in finance, telecommunications, consumer services and government: for the web, mobile and desktop channel. As UX designer and consultant in several Agile/Scrum-teams I have gathered hands-on experience in Agile methodologies.

Having worked in many international projects I love working in different cultures and with people from different cultures.

Why Niblick

The word ‘Niblick’ has connotations with old Dutch words meaning ‘New View’ or ‘New Vision’. Aspects I strive to put into my work.
But the name Niblick also links my passion for design with my second passion: that for the game of golf.

Nowadays the different clubs in a golf set are identified by numbers and letters. For example a 3-wood or a 7-iron or a P-wedge. Basically, the lower the number, the farther the ball will carry. The wedges are for the real short and touchy shots around the hole.
But over a hundred years ago the different clubs were given their own names. For example: Brassie, Spoon, Baffy, Mashie and, yes, Niblick. The closest modern equivalent of the Niblick would be the 9-iron, a versatile club for high approaches of around 110 meters but also for the longer bump-and-run chips around the hole.
For my game it’s the Pitching wedge’s (or ‘P-wegde’s’) taller brother.
